Hi,arkeon and iri
What is the main fuction of
"svn:server\ScolJavaServer\" ?
How can I put the scol app on my own server(such as:localhost)?
I have installed the "svn:server\ScolJavaServer\install" by the instructions and run my scs2 to upload to localhost:8080 ,but nothing happened.
and one more question ,Can SCS 2.5.2 use new render engine ogre3d?

Hi kenshin,
the ScolJavaServer is only a communication server for OpenSpace3D not for the SCS2
for the SCS2 serveur you need to install the scol server under linux or windows

is there any tutorials/info on running a ScolJavaServer on win xp/vista? i currently host an xmpp server (on and off at my whim) in my humble basement desktop

you must get all that files.
then you can install java JRE or copy the directory in the same place.
you can then launch the service
look at https://arkeon.dyndns.org/svn-scol/trun … nstall.txt

thx, so if the jre directory is: C:\Program Files\Java\jre7....would I put all of the files there, or in one of the sub-directories (bin or lib)?
Offline
is the jre is in the default directory you can change it here https://arkeon.dyndns.org/svn-scol/trun … ervice.ini
vm.location=c:/program files/java..../jre/bin/client/jvm.dll
no you should install the server in a new directory any where you want

Thx arkeon.... if I am running the server locally, what URL should os3d connect to?
Offline
in the ini file you have the server port "arg.1=9090"
so you should connect to 127.0.0.1:9090
Thx, I'll try this.

does anyone have a recommendation for the server os if I plan to put the scol java server on a commercial hosting server?

I think it is cheaper on linux and certainly more robust.
I done some looking and yes linux is cheaper...are there any server minimum requriements. When I chat with hosting vendors, they are usually ignorant as to what java even means....is jvm v. 1.6 bascially the only minimum requirement?

it depend if you want to use the same server for website, database, data upload / download and also the javaserver.
Also I don't have any look back on java server use with large user community.

I would like the chat server and database to all be with one host. If the user community gets too large, that's a problem that I look forward to having.

Here, for this kind of needs, the server is "empty" (or with a "basic" linux distribution like GNU Debian) and the admin installs what he wants : java, scol, dolphin, apache, and all.
Indeed, it is difficult to find a perfect server.

maybe I'll just find it in my basement :-)
