I guess I'll just use the portable version. Oh well.
Is it possible to install Openspace on a drive that is not the default C drive?
I have my windows settings set to install programs on my F drive, but when I try to install... Bam... everything is on my C drive.
There doesn't seem to be any option to choose where I want to install during the install process.
Am I missing something?
Thank you for any help.

Great! Thank you.

Hello,
For some reason, I can't download the OpenSpace3D portable version.
When I click on the link I get "Error 404 - Not Found" & "Sorry, but you are looking for something that isn't here."
Can anybody help?!
Thanks in advance.
M
Thanks for your feedback.
I hope you didn't take offense to my comment about not finding OpenSpace3D easy to pick up. I don't think this is the fault of the software. This is mainly due to time I have available, and unlike the Blender community, lets just say it's a little harder to find resources/tutorials to help new users get through the basics in OpenSpace3D.
That's all... hopefully over time this will get better.
This is what brought me here to ask about the book. Thank you for the links. It's very helpful.
I agree... it would be great to hear from other uses, and get their comments too.
Thanks again,
Moris
This sounds promising.
Do you think there's anyway we can at least see the table of contents? Just to be able to get a better understanding of what the book covers.
All though I have plenty of experience in TV and animation production, I have just a little bit of knowledge of game development. The knowledge I do have is mainly from the Blender Game Engine and a little dabbling with Unity.
I was attracted to OpenSpace3D because of its PlugITs system, but I'll be honest, I haven't found it easy to pick up. I'd hope this book might take the reader from a noob to pro. With some emphasis on the noob. A lot of times, I find that the noob part of these books get glossed over. When one is a pro, it's sometimes hard to dumb things down again and communicate to someone who has never used the program.
Anyway... if anyone has just a screen grab or anything that shows the table of contents, that would be great.
Thank you,
M
Hello,
Just wondering if anyone out there has purchased that Introduction to OpenSpace3D book?
Would you recommend it?
I don't have a lot of cash, so I guess I'm just looking for some opinions before I dole out the money.
Thank you in advance for your thoughts.

It works!
Great, thank you for the quick fix.

Hi there,
I wanted to try using OS3D at work, so I downloaded the portable version (I don't have permissions to install software).
When I go to launch the OpenSpace3D.exe I get and error telling me this:
You need a more recent Scol Voy@ger to start OpenSpace3D, you can download the last Scol Voy@ger on www.scolring.org. Download the Scol Voy@ger now? (Yes/No)
I pressed Yes and downloaded a file called scol_plugin.exe
I copied that file to the OS3D_portable folder, and tried lauching OS3D... got the same error.
I tried deleting the scol.exe that came with the program in case there was a conflict, tried lauching OS3D... got the same error.
Any thoughts on what I'm doing wrong?
I'm running windows 7 64bit.
Thank you,
M
Maybe a tutorial (or a few tutorials) showing how to set up Lighting, Effects, and Post processing effects (bloom, depth of field, SSAO, etc)?
Also...as much bare basics as possible. ie: This is how you make a basic maze game. This is how you make a cube move. etc. (if I find more examples I'll send em your way).
One issue I'm finding in learning OpenSpace3D is the learning curve. It's not easy learning the basics. At least for me it isn't.
Thanks
M
Hi there,
Just getting used to OpenSpace3D, and I had a few thoughts on UI and workflow.
First off, I would just like to say how much I'm enjoying the program.
Here are some ideas:
-a persistent parameters panel on the side, or a floating one that updates based on what you have selected. This instead of having to double click on a node every time you want to see or do anything. It's a little frustrating not knowing what parameters a node has until you double click and clutter up the screen.
Maybe have a few tabs like the Scene tree panel o the left. That way you can have a Object panel with parameters for repositioning, scaling and lighting, what not. Another tab for Scene parameters, and another for node parameters.
-A few default primitives would be nice. Just the usual... cube, cone, torus, cylinder. Instead of having to import these things from somewhere else.
-Scene (node) panel seems to be pivoted/locked in the upper left corner when zoomng and there's no ability to pan. I would be nice to free up this panel a little. So you have the ability to freely pan and position where you like, and maybe zoom based on the mouse position. I like the snap dots.
That's it for now I think. I like this engine and hope to see it progress.
Thank you for you time.

Hello,
I'm new to OpenSpace3D. It's day one and so far I'm loving it.
I'm just wondering if there's a hotkey list?
Mainly I'm wondering if there are hotkeys for the Move/Rotate/Scale buttons... and maybe a frame on selection hotkey?
Or a way to change the transform orientations from Local to Global for moving objects around?
Undo/Redo hotkeys?
Shift clicking to multiple select in the viewport and the Scene Tree?
Sorry about the noob questions. I really do like what I see so far with this software.
I dig it.
