best way to handle buffer when app focused on 2d ui

colleagues:

in the app i'm writing, there will be times when all the user will be looking at will be 2d content (pictures and text), like an instagram feed. then the user will click on a link or picture, and the app will load an os3d scene.

at such times, what is the best way to handle the os3d scene? should i turn the buffer off? make the scene very small in pixels and put a placeholder widget on it, like the os3d player opening screen but much smaller? i assume i should use the v3dlib.pkg and 2dlib.pkg and not so3 functions here (since they will be loaded when the app starts up), but i'm not sure which (disable 3d control? just resize view? use other functions?)

any input welcome
thx!
